Firth’s knock inspires SBCI to defeat holders

SBCI saw off holders Copley with a 19-run victory to lift the Heineken UK Twenty/ 20 title last weekend.

At a sun drenched Arches, hosts Copley won the toss and put in SBCI, who had earlier in the day knocked off the 144 for 9 posted by Bridgeholme in the semi-final.

A fine 37 from George Hampshire, 50 from Lewis Firth, who retired, and 26 from skipper Tom Wood helped SBCI post a very creditable 179 for 5.

In reply, Copley made a steady start, but the innings exploded into life with 49 from Oliver Thorpe and 50 from Copley skipper Chris Dennison who also then retired.

However, the Copley innings stuttered with some fine tight bowling from Tom Wood and Tom Conway who took 2-22 and 2-16 respectively.

Jamie Sykes also picked up a wicket which pegged back the home side who tried to respond but fell short of the required target with 160 for 7.
