Club Dinner

Our annual club dinner was held the following evening at the Moorlands Inn, Halifax.  Many thanks to everyone who made the night a huge success, but special thanks to Yvonne Larkin and Rob Larkin who were the driving force behind it all.

A list of club prize winners can be found via the end of season Silly Point

Month by month round-up reports of the season can also be found on our website in the News Archive section.

Once again, thanks to all who attended and congratulations to all of our winners.

In Memoriam

The club are sad to have been informed of the passing of three former players, two who were part of our inaugural 1964 Parish Cup win.

Dennis Bowyer will be sadly missed by all who knew him at the cricket club.  Dennis started with us in the 1950’s and played for the club for over 20 years before moving on to play for Copley CC.

Former captain Trevor Whittaker led the club to two Parish Cup finals in the 1960’s (winning one and losing one -both against Booth CC).  Trevor started his career with us in the late 1940’s and soon established himself as a 1st XI player and was elected captain in the early 60’s, just ahead of the two Parish Cup final appearances. His 5 wickets in the semi-final against Triangle in 1964 helped us make the final.  Trevor held the position as captain until he left for Illingworth in the 1970’s.

Glenn Priestley represented the club in the 1970’s and 1980’s and had also been a Halifax Cricket League Umpire.  We believe that he is the only person (on record) at our club to have taken all ten wickets in an innings in 1981 against Booth – 10 wickets for 45 runs.

May all three rest in peace.

Club Development

Possibly the most noticeable change for players and visitors alike to look out for when they return to The Astleys next year is that the ‘all weather artificial wicket’ has been removed from the square. Two new grass wickets have been laid as a result giving our head Groundsman a little more room to play with in rotating strips.

We are in the process of acquiring ‘Frogbox’. For those not familiar with what this is it is a video camera system which will enable us to live stream matches on the Play Cricket platform. This will not only be great for supporters to watch games they cannot physically attend but will significantly raise the profile and exposure we can offer existing and new sponsors.

The bowlers run ups to the nets have been extended with a top walling effort by Jamie Summerscales helping make this possible.
