Junior Cricket

Friday nights really are a hive of activity up at the club with nearly 60 registered children playing cricket for the club across 4 age group teams.
The Under 9’s side lead the way with a 100%-win record, with all other teams having recorded at least one victory so far.
All Stars has also started and is being run on a Sunday morning between 10:00 and 11:00.
Upcoming Social (and Cricket) Events

Friday 13^th June: Our 20/20 side will play host to Thornton with a 6:30 start and a place in the 20/20 trophy at stake.
14^th June: Play your Cards Right

5^th July: Race Night - The social event of the year.
Hoping as many of you can join us as possible to make this event as successful as always for the club.

2023/ 2024 Winter round-up / Details of Junior & Senior Winter nets

Whilst the 2023 cricket season might be a fading memory, there has been plenty going on at our club in the "off" season.
League Dinner

The Annual Halifax Cricket League Dinner was held at the Arches, Dean Clough on Friday 24th November.

Our annual club dinner was held the following evening at the Moorlands Inn, Halifax.

In Memoriam

The club are sad to have been informed of the passing of three former players, two who were part of our inaugural 1964 Parish Cup win.
Dennis Bowyer will be sadly missed by all who knew him at the cricket club.
Former captain Trevor Whittaker led the club to two Parish Cup finals in the 1960’s (winning one and losing one -both against Booth CC).
Glenn Priestley represented the club in the 1970’s and 1980’s and had also been a Halifax Cricket League Umpire.
May all three rest in peace.
Club Development

Possibly the most noticeable change for players and visitors alike to look out for when they return to The Astleys next year is that the ‘all weather artificial wicket’ has been removed from the square.
We are in the process of acquiring ‘Frogbox’.
The bowlers run ups to the nets have been extended with a top walling effort by Jamie Summerscales helping make this possible.

Sprinkling of Holt, Illingworth and Dalby magic helps SBCI 2XI perform the ultimate Houdini trick and win the Crossley Shield for the first time in their history.
Local rivals Warley beaten by 34 runs as we gain a modicum of revenge for our defeat in the final of 2016.
Whilst coming close and losing in the Crossley Shield final in both 1986 and 2016 (losses to both Blackley and Warley respectively), the SBCI second team had never won either the Premier Division league title or the knockout trophy for second teams in the Halifax league.
We were aware that we had a more than capable team to compete in both league and cup competitions and an agonising loss on the last day of the 2022 season saw us finish second in the league, showed us how far we had progressed as we needed to win on the final day of the 2021 season just to stay in the top division.
We started off our 2023 cup campaign in May with a couple of tricky fixtures against lower league opposition.
Against Outlane in round 1, Waqas Suffyan with 4 for 23 and captain Simon Hampshire with 2 for 17 were the standout performers with the ball after we’d asked our guests for the day to bat.
We were back at the Astley’s at the end of May to take on Mount in the second round of the Shield and despite a few changes to personnel we reduced our guests for the day to 76 for 9 (Tyson Illingworth 5 for 13 and Simon 3 for 21 from their allotted overs) before the 10th wicket pair put on nearly 80 to post a more than useful 155.
Onto round three and it was a late finish up at the Stute’ on the final Sunday of June as the tie against Mytholmroyd was forced to be carried over into the following week with the game finely balanced with 10 overs of the opposition innings left, before bad light halted proceedings.
Despite a disappointing show in the league 24 hours before our semi-final, we thankfully and quickly found our form again to sweep Thornton aside in our cup semi-final.
And so, onto the final on 20^th August against our local rivals Warley with the game being played at Sowerby St Peters CC.
Added to the awkward nature of the pitch, there was also the SBCI maroon wall to contend with.
And so, onto the Warley innings.
As you can imagine the celebrations were long and hard, which they should if you pick up a first piece of cup silverware.
A huge congratulations to anyone involved with SBCI- players, members, supporters and sponsors.

After a dozen(ish) years away from the Astleys, we are delighted to see the return of former captain Jamie Summerscales to our club for the 2023 season.

All 32 teams for the World Cup Sweepstake were sold pretty quickly with half of the £320 going directly to the club.
Congratulations to Millie Gould who scooped the £100 for having Argentina, with Dave Grundy taking home £40 as runner up and our very own Treasurer, who is £20 better off for pulling out Croatia.
